Source: German, US ministries mull lifting N Stream-2 sanctions

BERLIN, Feb 12 (PRIME) -- Negotiations to lift sanctions on Russia’s Nord Stream-2 natural gas pipeline are going on between Germany and the U.S. at the level of ministries, though it is difficult to predict an outcome, a source familiar with the discussion told PRIME on Friday.

“Negotiations are going on at the level of ministries, they are exchanging offers, and this is good,” the source said, adding that it was difficult to predict chances for success.

In 2020, the German Finance Ministry made suggested allocation of 1 billion euros on construction of two terminals for taking in liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the country. When asked for a comment on that, the source said, “It is a likely scenario, it is a pragmatic one and a right one.”
